Back to school

It's here - the first day of school.  Annie started today at Sangre Ridge Elementary, a school that has 200 more kids in it than my entire school district ever had. Needless to say it was hard to decipher who was more nervous - her or I.

Anxiety faded last night though when we met her teacher and saw her classroom.  I was reassured after getting in the school that in all actuality it was not the size of an aircraft carrier with a complex grid and city within itself that my child would just become a faceless, factionless number in (yes, these are the weird, unrealistic things that formulate in my mind but I'm going to put part of the blame on the fact that I just finished the book Divergent).  Annie on the other hand, had more realistic fears, which thankfully were quickly relieved when she saw there were still centers and toys for her to learn from (it is pre-K after all).

We also realized that she already knew four of the kids in class so her declaration the day before of "I'm going to cry" turned into "go ahead and go Mom" this morning at drop off.

So I did, all the while hoping I'll be able to remember the intricate details of student pick-up this afternoon which appear to be similar to airport procedures complete with the name card for your passenger.

Week of the Young Child

Annie's pre-school celebrates The Week of the Young Child like my high school did spirit week before homecoming where everyone wears random get-ups all week.  These were Annie's:

Monday - Crazy Clothes Day (a cape was all I could come up with - I'm not very fashion forward)

Tuesday - Wear Your Favorite Color - purple, of course. (Annie wanted Denver in the picture because she was so impressed with his overalls "they are sooooo cute - take his picture too!")

Wednesday - Crazy Hair Day (note to self: hair chalk is EXTREMELY hard to get out of very blond hair.)

Thursday - Dress Myself Day (Annie was dying to wear the cape again - she had asked to every day since Monday so guess what she put on??? She added the mask for effect.)

Friday - Crazy Hat Day - we've used this hat on multiple occasions and it's begining to get stretched to the limit but she still loves it and look how sweet she is in it.

FNP - complete!

I'm done - I've made it through nurse practitioner school.

I'm so grateful God blessed me with this opportunity & a husband who supported & encouraged me all the way. In addition to this I had a sweet & understanding study partner who was happy to sit at the table & color or scribble on paper doing her "homework" along with me. Her enthusiastic greeting of "Congratulations!" and hug as I came in the door after my last day iced the cake on getting finished up.

Hiatus

Okay so life has been crazy around here with school, work, & extra-curricular events. However, the busiest part of my semester is over & I am coasting into my last 3 months of school. Ever. (Please hold me to that.)

Speaking of school - here's a tradition for you - school pictures for Annie were last week. This was her practice smile. Enjoy.

Good intentions

In all honesty I got up this morning to catch my clinical log up-to-date.  A clinical log is something for school that is similar to chiggers in the grass during the summer. It's all fun in the sun until you get home and have to chart it. Which in the case of chiggers would be to realize that now you have unsightly red welps on your legs that are going to itch unless you paint them with nail polish (I don't believe that is advice from anyone but an Old Wife but it worked and very quickly).

I am not getting to said clinical log though because the goofy circle (not rainbow wheel - if that comes up you might as well surrender) that says it's loading is spinning like crazy and not getting anything done.  Of course when I go to sites like Yahoo, Pintrest, or the blogs I read they load right up which I guess means it was not meant to be for me to get up and get ahead of the sun this morning.
