Where the magic begins

Busy season is officially over for Philip, cold and flu season is trending down, Annie has begun her last nine weeks of pre-K and spring is on its way so it's the perfect time to vacation and that is just what we are doing.

We've loaded up our bags and headed to Disney World for a fun week of magic and memory making courtesy of Papa and Nana and of course Disney.

We flew together as a large group sans Cassey and Michael who met up with us at the resort.

Traveling in a group was helpful because it left more hands to help with this little guy.  The bigger littles were able to keep each other entertained with various technology sources and tiny little Shopkin toys that kept the adults busy scrambling around to keep up with.  Note to toy manufacturers- anything smaller than a half-dollar is not a good idea to create and then market to kids with not-yet-developed-hand-dexterity.

We rode the Magical Express to our resort.

We got checked in the resort and the caught the ferry and meandered around Downtown Disney where we ate some yummy food and then headed back to the resort for the kids to swim.

We wrapped the day up with the kid's watching movies on the lawn at the resort and then some much needed sleep for all the excitement that lies ahead this week.

Well-child check

Today we cheated and did Denver's 18 month well-child check about 3 weeks early.  We are flying on Sunday and I wanted to make sure his ears were not infected or effused (and trying to do an exam on him myself is near impossible) so graciously our pediatrician went with it.

Anyway, here he is measuring in at the 97th percentile in weight, height, and head circumference which has pretty much been the story since birth.

I'm partial but I'd put his smile and personality in the 97th percentile too.

Garden fun

Annie did some fairy gardening on this beautiful afternoon.

While she was diligently working she let me know that gnomes stop by too and she can tell because they always leave a mess.

Fee, Fi, Foe, Fum!

An unexpected late morning at work led to extra play time with the kiddos today.

Sometimes life just hands you a little gift...and I was pleased as punch to accept this one.

Uphill Battle

Last Sunday Philip completed a half-marathon trail run in Tulsa.

It was not until we drove up to the site of the race the evening before that he realized he would be running up what in Oklahoma geography is a mountain and was appropriately titled "The Hill from *&!!" (aka Satan's lair). This did not discourage him though, and much like the popular t-shirts of the 90's claimed, he had No Fear as the kids and I dropped him off the next morning. (Although he may have had a little concern after overhearing a conversation by a young man that morning who limped in to the breakfast area talking about the race the day before and people being carried off on stretchers...)

The littles and I then headed back to the hotel and breakfasted and enjoyed the wonder of a spinning chair.

Seriously you would have thought this typical black business seat was the teacups at Disneyland for the joy these two got out of that chair.

After Denver was walking like a drunken sailor and Annie had jumped from bed to bed approximately 40 million times we loaded up and went to watch Philip cross the finish line.

He did fantastic!

He ended up being 11th in his age group which is outstanding for a first timer and a trail run.  He had trained hard and finished well.

Annie decided that morning that she wanted to give him a big surprise for "winning" (aka finishing) and came up with all sorts of good ideas like new shoes or a new car but was easily satisfied with the large medal he got when he was done.

On our way home we got Mexican food which is always a win in my book.

Way to go Philip on the 13.1!

Under the sea

Annie: "I'm being a mermaid, it's so fun! Have you ever pretended to be a mermaid?"

Uhm - I grew up in the era of a fairly successful romantic comedy (Splash) where the female lead was a rogue mermaid checking out the human world while hunting down her true love.  A couple of years after that Disney created the first redheaded animated heroine that just happened to be a mermaid who sailed off into the sunset with her prince. With all of this inspiration it is safe to say I spent a good deal of my time in the bathtub as a young girl using a washcloth to make a bandeau top and imagining my legs were a beautiful green tail when in all actuality my fingers and toes were turning to pale prunes.

Me: "Yes, it is fun."

Thanks for the reminder, sweet girl.
